About Angela Nicholas
I was born in Dover in Kent but spent my school days in Gloucester. I graduated in Latin from London University (Royal Holloway College) and also have post-graduate qualifications in Librarianship and Information Technology.
After I met my husband, Chris Mac Arthur, in 1974 we settled in Portsmouth and have lived there ever since.
I am now retired after a career first in higher education as a librarian and then later in local government as an IT specialist. My Latin is now decidedly rusty, though I do own the Latin translation of The Hobbit !
My interest in Tolkien's works began in the early 1970s then, after lying dormant for some years, was reawakened on the release of Peter Jackson's films in 2001-3. I am a member of the Tolkien Society and of the Southampton UK Tolkien Reading Group. As well as my book on Aragorn I have written several items for the Tolkien Society publication Amon Hen.
Chris and I are great cat lovers and have shared our home with a number of felines over the years. We enjoy the countryside and go on regular walks with our local branch of the Ramblers Association as well as going on walking holidays further afield. We are also members of the 1745 Association whose aims are to study the Jacobite Movement and preserve the memories of those involved in it.
